Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnosis?

- Hypnosis is a natural state of mind which involves beneficial inward focus of concentration, and is often accompanied by profound relaxation and heightened awareness. It is safe, pleasurable and completely non-addictive.

Is there a chance I won't be able to be hypnotised?

- It's extremely unlikely, provided you want to experience hypnosis. Only small children, people under the influence of drugs, and the mentally disabled might have difficulty with the concentration necessary. The stronger your mind is, the better, and almost everybody can be guided into this state of relaxation and increased awareness.

Does hypnosis involve rituals and physical contact?

- No. It is induced purely by the therapist's voice and touch isn't necessary (nor are pendulums, candles or rotating bow ties). You can choose to sit or recline comfortably, and the only thing you have to do is relax.

Can I talk during hypnosis and still remain hypnotised?

- Absolutely. In fact, during analytical sessions, talking about your own experiences whilst in hypnosis deepens the state, because it increases your focus and concentration on yourself.

Will I be under your control when in hypnosis?

- Not at all. Hypnosis is a voluntary state which you can leave whenever you want to. A hypnotist or hypnotherapist can never make a person do anything that they would not ordinarily do, or that was unsafe, during hypnosis. Have you seen a stage act when it appeared that people were doing things out of the ordinary? The stage setting gives people a chance to show off their extrovert sides - an excuse to behave in those ways without inhibition!

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

- No, that's impossible.

How will I tell when I am hypnotised?

- Due to the misinformation perpetuated by various forms of media, some people expect to be 'knocked-out' or unconscious, or in a form of amnesic trance. The truth is, hypnosis is really only characterised by a deep sense of calm and ease, or/and complete absorption in internal states - there are only very subtle feelings that indicate hypnosis. There is no standard hypnotic feeling - everybody is an individual and experiences different sensations - and some people may not recognise the onset of hypnosis at all. However, usually after a few sessions clients begin to 'feel' the hypnotised state, appreciate its benefits, and get better at achieving a deep state.
